Magical garden?

every year different flowers come up in my garden and i dont understand why? For example 2 years after i moved in there was a flourish on "forget me nots" but the following year they didnt show up, though they show up every so often.

Another example is that i planted a peony one year and it never came up, but all of a sudden 3 years later i have a peony growing somewhere else.. (and no, i wasnt drunk when i planted it) why is this happening?

Magical garden?
Many seeds germinate one year, and flower the next - Forget me nots are typically like this, as are wallflowers and most foxgloves.

The seeds for many plants can last in the soil for several years, potentially not all of them growing until they're at the right depth, temperature and with the right amount of water etc. So, with the forget me nots, flowering this year might mean the seeds germinate next year, and they flower the following year - in a couple of years time.

The peony - if it's the same one, I'm guessing could have been dug up by your or something else, and got moved whilst it was dormant, and wouldn't have looked like a plant etc. Otherwise, it could just have been a seed from your original plant, or dropped by animals, such as birds, picked up elsewhere.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

Some Peonies grow quite readily from seed so maybe a bird dropped one in your garden from a neighbouring garden and you are reaping the benefits. Forget me nots come up in their hundreds every year in our garden and i love them. Are you pulling them up before they set seed? If not then i'm not sure whats going on.!
Reply:You obviously do have a magical garden!

Enjoy!

I would just enjot it ... what better garden than one you can't predict...
Reply:I would love to explore your magical garden my lovely friend. Hidden treasure and treats everywhere. lol
Reply:the peony could have been washed over there with the rain water.
Reply:You must have slow soil
Reply:Foget me nots can be either annual or perennial, It seems that your forget me nots are polycarpic perennial plants, which means that they do not come up every year but do flower many times over their lifetime - you could try taking cuttings and plant the out each year if you want them annually, if not leave them as they are - they will stop flowering one day!

As for your Peony - im guessing that some creature has eaten seeds from your flower and pooped it out into another area of your garden or the wind has blown seeds around your garden (the seeds are on the stamen of the flower) - or it could be the fairies in the bottom of your garden moving things around for you - perhaps they prefer it in its new location.
