I miss my Iris from my former house?

I sold my house in the winter and left alot of meaningful flowers mainly Iris and Peonies and many were heirlooms from my family and some I recieved as gifts. Would be inappropriate to stop by and ask if I could take some of the rhizomes to my new house? What would you do if someone asked you? Also in others peoples yards - have you ever asked if you could swap with them?

I miss my Iris from my former house?
I couldn't take them with us when we moved in January 2004 because of freezing temperatures, so I went back in May when I could get some of each variety of iris (several you have mentioned). We had taken good care of them, so they were thriving, and the owner was glad to share, and I weeded their flower beds in return.
Reply:I don't know why you couldn't at least try. I'd probably let them know what sentimental value they have, and at least ask if you could divide them. Irises need to be divided when they get too big anyway--my husband loves to go to garage sales just so he can find places with irises and offer to pay for a start of them. If someone came to my house under your circumstances, I'm sure the irises would be big enough to divide, and I'd probably give you some (but that's me).
Reply:You betcha. What do you want? Will gladly share.

The new owners would probably love to know what's planted where. I'd ask....and probably take them a house plant in trade.
Reply:Absolutely yes! Gardeners love to share.
Reply:You sold the house and everything that goes with it. It is not right to go ask for something that no longer belongs to you for free. It does not matter whether they had meaning.....if you did not think to take them to begin with they are not yours. There is no reason why the new owner should have to spend time and money filling holes with flowers because you want them back. Why not go out and just get more flowers?
