Can anyone tell me what flower this is?

I was told it was a daylily. Then a neighbor told me it was a Peony. Is that correct? Is a Peony the same as a Peonies? Anyway, I was given a few plants to give to my mom and I want to find out how to care for them. I tried to research it and haven't found a thing with any of the names I was told. Here are pictures of its flower and another of its leaf:

Thanks for your help!

Can anyone tell me what flower this is?
That is most likely "Bowl of Beauty", which is a very common, popular variety of herbaceous peony. The flower itself is considered an 'anemone bomb' because of the single row of outer petals and the big poof in the middle.

They can be transplanted pretty easily, replant them at the depth they were dug up at and try not to seriously disturb the roots. Sometimes they will continue to bloom even after a move. They like full sun to light shade, and well drained, moist soil. A little compost in the bottom of the hole wouldn't hurt, and some mulch too. You might want to get peony hoops to help support the blooms up, they are available at Walmart and at any garden center.

Good luck! Peonies are beautiful plants :)
Reply:Yes absolutely its a Peony

* peonies are long-lived (over 50 years).

* peonies are hardy (to USDA zone 2).

* peonies are drought tolerant.

* peonies are low maintenance.

* peonies are deer-resistant.

* with thoughful selection of cultivars, the peony bloom season can last 6-8 weeks

* many new varieties have strong stems.

* peonies have been cultivated for more than 2000 years as medicinal and ornamental plants.

* flowers come in a range of colours, including yellow, coral, peach and lavender, in addition to white, blush, pink, magenta, and red.

* "rosy snouts" in spring, lush foliage all summer, and colourful seedheads provide lasting interest.

* blooms may be single, semi-double, double, anemone, or Japanese in form.

* their scent can be classified as rose, lemon, honey, or musk.
Reply:Definitely a peony or peonies if more than one. I have included a site that will give you all the info you need for caring for it. Good luck and great picture!

Reply:It's a peony. Peonies just means more than one peony. :)They come in a zillion colors and sizes so you might not see the particular one you have if you're Googling it. Nice pic, btw.

Peony care is simple. Plant it, water it, and it'll grow. They are very hardy in Zone 5 (hot summers cold winters) They do NOT like to be moved once they are planted, apparently.
Reply:I agree--peony.
Reply:It is a peony. a good sun is what it like. you may want to mulch it the first year to help protect it. you can get starts off of it, when it is blooming.
Reply:Most definitely a Peony.

And yes, Peonies is the plural of Peony.

(Daylilies have strappy, wide, almost grass-like leaves. And the flowers are shaped differently too)
