Peonies - partial shade?

Does anyone know whether keeping a peony in partial shade is okay? Specifically, I have 3 wild sunflowers that are growing around it at the moment. It's kept well watered so it is not going to die from lack of water. The huge leaves of the sunflower are blocking sunlight however to a certain extent. I love wild sunflowers because they bloom from the end of June until October (Chicago area). My wife is worried that the peony will be killed by the sunflowers, can anyone provide insight?

Peonies - partial shade?
Peonies do well either in full sun or in partial shade. I have some growing where they are in full sun all day. I have more that is shaded by a maple tree that only get about 2 hours of sun per day. All of them are growing great. Don't worry about a little shade. I hope this helps.
Reply:Since its only a few sunflowers and not a field of them, your peonies will be fine.

Enjoy the summer.
Reply:I have a garden spot in the middle of my side yard that is in partial shade due to a large tree to the east and my house to the west. This area never gets full bright sunlight but that is where my peonies have been for years and have always done beautifully (large lush growth and lots of blooms). I moved some starts from this plant to a place that did have bright sunlight, but they don't seem to be doing as well. I don't see why your peonies shouldn't handle the partial shading. The sunflowers can't block it well enough to cut off ALL light!
Reply:peonies do just fine in partial shade, i have the plants to prove it.

Tell your wife not to worry.
Reply:Full sunlight.
