Do peonies attract ants? Why or Why not?

Yes, ants are attracted to peonies. They are attracted to the sap that is on the buds that are getting ready to open, and then to the nectar inside.

Peonies don't really need the ants to bloom, regardless of old wives' tales. If you spray ant spray on your plants and kill off the ants the flowers will bloom fine.

Do peonies attract ants? Why or Why not?
It has been years since I've grown peonies but if there is nectar in the flower or aphids feeding on the leaves, ants will be attracted to the flowers and plants.

You could diatomaceous earth around the base of the plants to inhibit and kill the ants. It is harmless to people and pets. Make sure it is intended as an insecticide rather than used for filtration.
Reply:Yes, ants are atractted to the peonies. You could kill them, but....ants will not harm the plants. There's been lots of research about this.
Reply:The buds attract them and nobody really knows why.
