Yes, bunching them up, like tulips and daffodils is a good idea. The reason you do this is to let the foliage die back naturally, so more energy is stored within the plant for next year. With peonies, you can literally mow them down to the ground in Sept/ Oct, and they come back fine. A pharmacist friend of mine had a grandfather who had a peony farm a hundred years old, and he did all of his that way.

Peony doesn't like being moved-- and the leaves need the sun to build energy for next year's blooming. With that said-- perhaps either answer will work--


If you choose to move the plant-- make very sure that the top of the root is at the same height after the move-- they need to be "just so" to continue blooming next year.


If you intend to fold the foliage over-- make sure the leaves have sufficient sunlight this year.


Make sure you "water in" well-- like fill the hole with plant and dirt and fill the entire hole with water-- adding dirt as needed. I believe air pockets are the bane of transplanting.

Reply:I have done with them what you do with tulips and daffodils. Kind of bunch them together and fold them over. Use string or rubber bands. I know you don't want to cut them completely down but bundling and folding down cuts down on some of the space they can take up and let's you see everything else coming in now.
Reply:if they are no longer needed throw them away but if you think that they might be prettier in a different location carefully uproot them and then plant them in a different spot thats more suitable
Reply:Cut them to the ground, they'll come back better the next year. i do every year and they look better and better
