What is a DUVET ?
A duvet cover needs to have a down or other material comforter put inside it. It is just a cover.
Reply:Duvet (Duvea), It is a french name given to a comforter/bed spread set. You could sleep on it, but it is not designed for that, and you can't wash them in a machine.
Reply:A duvet is like a comforter, but is usually plain and is intended to be placed inside of a duvet cover, which is like a pillow case for the duvet.

People who buy duvets/duvet covers usually buy them so that they can change the look of the room with the seasons - have a winter look and a summer look. So, it's like a slip cover for a comforter.

You can use a regular comforter inside of a duvet, which is a good inexpensive way to freshen up the look of a room.
Reply:Okay.... a duvet is a down feather comforter.... but a duvet cover is exactly like a big pillowcase for a pillow but for your comforter.

If it's a duvet set, likely, it is a duvet cover with pillow shams to match and possibly a bed skirt too. Keep in mind that you can put a plain comforter inside a duvet cover... it doesn't have to be a duvet inside... But if you decide to go this route, make certain that you can't see the pattern from the comforter through the duvet cover....

Duvet is great as it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter...
