Peonies bush question?

it was growing up in the middle of my lawn so i dug out all the roots i could find, they are real big too, so i was just wondering if I could replant them somewhere else in the yard and would they grow?

do i just plant a part of the root or how many pieces should i put in one hole? and will that even work?

also what can i spray on the area i dug it up to make sure it doesn't sprout up again incase there is some root i missed?

thanks!

Peonies bush question?
Peonies are generally transplanted in the fall so they might not do as well being transplanted in the summer. You can divide the root up and have a bunch of them but they will take time to flower. Usually about 2 - 3 years. The plants will get bigger each year then finally start blooming. Don't plant them too deep or they won't bloom at all. It's doubtful they will come up in the lawn again. They don't act like weeds and continually sprout up in odd places. You're sure it's a peony?
Reply:Peony roots r large and somewhat bulbous, u can replant them in individual holes wherever u want them to grow, plant the part which has a tuberous thickness to it. If there r remaining roots in the original hole of the mother plant, u may have damaged them to prevent regrowth. Other than removing the entire root system, I do not know what to suggest for killing off any remaining roots. If u live near a Lowe`s or Home Depot or anywhere they sell plants and shrubbery, they should be able to help u.
Reply:First off if you've already dug it up you need to get it into the ground again as soon as possable. You need to first dig a hole which is as deep as the one it came out of and twice as wide all the way around.

Next you'll want to use a Good soil such as Potting soil with miracle Grow in it, or peat moss. So that it has plenty of nourishment. Plant your Peoine, and make sure that the soul is even to the planting line on the stalk of the bush. you can see the line if you check out the stalk part near the bottom. Press the soil firmly around the plant, then generously water your plant to set the roots and give it a good start. Keep it moist and trim off any old leaves and flowers so it will focus on new growth.

Peonies like sunshine more than shade. so make sure it has ample sunshine for atleast part of the day.

they also can grow quite large, so take that into consideration when planting.
